Copenhagen (Danish København) is the capital city of Denmark and of Copenhagen County. This cosmopolitan city has been the capital city of Denmark for over 600 years and is also the largest city in Scandinavia. The city maintains a low-level approach to the modernisation of its historic skyline and Copenhageners continue to live up to their reputation as tolerant, fun-loving folk.
No matter what your interests, Copenhagen has a whole lot of sightseeing and entertainment on offer; historic or modern, trendy shops or cosy cafes - and it's all right in the heart of the city, presented with typical Scandinavian flair.
Copenhagen is a major seaport and commercial center. Copenhagen is sited on two islands, Sjaelland Island and Amager Island. These two sections of the city are connected by bridges.
Among the city's principal places of interest are the cathedral, Vor Frue Kirke (Church of Our Lady), built in the 12th century; Charlottenborg Palace constructed in 1672, Prinsens Palace, the former royal palace of Christiansborg, the Thorvaldsen Museum, the Royal Theater and the Royal Library. The Tivoli Gardens, a famed amusement park, is a leading attraction in the city.
